August 23, 2010: The challenge of RoHS compliance

We've had a few requests for RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) compliance for our products.

This is an issue we take seriously at CoroWare and we are working towards this goal.

However, to be RoHS compliant requires us to have every vendor of all of our components certify they are RoHS compliant in order for us to be able to claim this for our products. We have been working down this path, but a few of our components are single-sourced and the vendors are not moving towards RoHS compliance.

June 22, 2010: Updated Linux Player Drivers

CoroWare has released a new version of the Player plugin and GUI for Linux!  Those of you who are still using the old version of Player 2.1.x might want to upgrade to the current Player 3.0.1 to use this driver.  This new code supports both IRs (which you may have on your CoroBot if you bought it a while ago) and bumper sensors (which you probably have if you have bought your CoroBot since this January).  We have also updated the GUI to support both our Explorer and CoroBot robots with the same code base - it's never been easier to mix the two robot types!

May 4, 2010: Player 3.0.1 Documentation Online

As you probably know, CoroWare supports the Player Project on its Linux CoroBot and Explorer robots.  To help people who use Player, we've started hosting some documentation for Player. This is still the same documentation that you would get by making the docs from a normal Player installation, with the occasional broken link and error included.  We’ve just found a number of cases where we don’t have a Player installation handy and need to get to the docs, and even the occasional person asking for it.

April 21, 2010: 2009 - The year to forget?

Not for CoroWare's Robotics team!

2009 was definitely a year that saw economic challenges for every company, and CoroWare was no different.  During a time of strong downturn, we saw more than 11% growth in our product sales. This is something we're rather proud of, and at the same time, we feel appreciation for all the customers who stayed with us and showed continuing interest in our product lines.

We believe much of our success comes from the core target values behind our products:

Mar 15, 2010: Would you like a Laser with your CoroBot?

Just this week, we announced a laser option for our CoroBot and Explorer robots.  Planar laser range finders are amazing sensors.  They're more accurate than lasers and infrared sensors, and give higher resolution.  The trade off is that they're more expensive, but the first time you work with one, you'll probably decide that it's worth it.

Feb 26, 2010: Just the facts, ma'am!

While we are very proud of our current product line we are always looking for new ideas for our robotic products. So we have decided to give each of you the ability to give us some feedback.

We have put up a section titled Question of the week where we will be placing a poll regularly. It's in the upper-right corner of the window - go ahead and take a look. This is a way for you to provide feedback on what you'd like to see in our products, as well as information about yourself. And sometimes the questions may just be for fun.

Feb 18, 2010: Bumpers and Diff-Drives and Bases, Oh My!

You may have noticed that we've made a few changes to our beloved CoroBot.  The first is that we have added a choice of base styles.  The venerable 4WD skid steer base is still available, though we have moved to a machined and anodized aluminum base.  We have also added a two wheel (well, three if you count the caster) differential-drive base, which would give you an easier time turning in place.

Feb 12, 2010: Support forums have been repaired.

Just when you think everything's working...

Some sharp-eyed customers reported being unable to register on our support forums at http://support.coroware.com. After some research, we discovered the out-bound e-mail from the forums was being blocked by some security "features" that had been put in place.  Apparently, we had made it a bit too secure.

Once we were aware of the problem, the IT staff was able to get it fixed in short order. So now - registering for an account on the forums is operational.
